US has always sought to break up Syria: Analyst

Press TV has interviewed Mike Harris, editor of Veterans Today in Portland, to discuss the remarks made by US Secretary of State John Kerry, saying it remains to be seen if the proposed cessation of hostilities in Syria upholds and that the US has a slew of “Plan B” options in case a political transition fails to unfold in the Arab country.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: What do you make of Kerry’s comments? He is talking about Plan B but if we go back years ago to what had been leaked as for as the original plans of the United States in this area, is it a surprise for you to hear him talking about partitioning Syria?

Harris: A surprise, not at all. The powers that be within the United States have wanted to break Syria up for a very long time. It has been their policy, they have stated it, they want to do it again. This is merely another bluster on the part of John Kerry trying to frighten the Assad regime into rolling over and giving up.

President Bashar al-Assad is too dedicated of a man. He is dedicated to his people, his country, his culture, he will not roll over, he will stand and keep Syria united. I wish him all of the best. But it is time for the US to quit meddling in the affairs of other countries and sort of tend to our own [needs] and get things in order in this country for a change.

Press TV: So do you think that this is a sign that we are not really going to see a long-lasting ceasefire if the United States is still once again insisting that President Assad must go? How do you see the situation, talks between Russia now and the United States on Syria?   

Harris: Well I see the United States being again on the wrong side of history. I think that time will bear this out that the United States is once again doing the wrong things for the wrong reasons.

We showed that in Afghanistan, we showed it in Iraq, we are showing it now in Syria. Again I will urge President Assad and the Syrian people to stand in solidarity and resist these attempts by the Western powers to break up their country because once they break it up they are never putting it back together and it is unfortunate that the US feels compelled to meddle in the affairs of indigenous, autonomous people.  

Press TV: Is this a sign though of waning of, if you want to say, power by the United States itself because we have seen now place after place, whether we are talking about Iraq, whether we are talking about Afghanistan, whether we are talking about Syria that they really have not been successful and though they are still trying to flex their muscles in Syria, obviously President Assad who has stayed this long it appears that he is going to remain? Is that a sign of the waning power of the United States?

Harris: Let’s just say when it comes to foreign policy the United States has the fecal touch, everything they touch turns to crap and so you do not want the United States coming near your country, you do not want them helping you, you do not want them coming anywhere near you and your policies because, like I said, it is the fecal touch, everything turns to crap that they touch.

Look at the records they left in Afghanistan, the records they left in Iraq, look at the records in Libya, you do not want the United States coming near your country because they will destroy it, they will destroy everything of value, they will kill millions of people. The United States should be the most feared and reviled country [in] the world today because of misguided foreign policy, because of adventurism and the desire for empire.
