An Israeli settler has shot two Palestinians who allegedly stabbed two Israelis in the occupied West Bank, killing one of them.

The attack took place on Thursday at a supermarket belonging to the Rami Levy chain at the Sha'ar Binyamin Industrial zone frequented by Israeli settlers near the city of Ramallah.

The Palestinians were shot by an armed Israeli settler at the scene.

The two Palestinian were described by eyewitnesses as young. One Palestinian died while the other was in a moderate to serious condition, according to the spokeswoman for the Shaare Zedek hospital in al-Quds (Jerusalem).

One of the Israelis that were allegedly stabbed was also "pronounced dead," according to the spokeswomen.

Since the start of October 2015, some 180 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in what is regarded as the third Palestinian Intifada (uprising).

Tensions heightened in the Palestinian territories in August 2015, when Israel imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Palestinians say the Tel Aviv regime seeks to change the status quo of the holy Muslim site.

Recently, a UN human rights expert slammed Israel for using excessive force against Palestinian protesters amid ongoing tensions between the two sides in the occupied territories.

Makarim Wibisono, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, said the upsurge in violence was a “grim reminder” of the unsustainable human rights situation in the Palestinian territories.
