Saudi Arabia making mockery of anti-terror fight: Pundit

This file photo shows members of Saudi special forces taking part in anti-terrorism exercises.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Seif Da’na, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, and Daniel Serwer, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, to discuss a statement made by Saudi Arabia about the formation of an “anti-terror” military coalition compromised of 34 Islamic nations.

Da’na says Saudi Arabia is actually “making a mockery” of fighting terrorism by leading an anti-terror alliance. He says there are all sort of studies confirming that Saudi Arabia is one of the most important financial sources of funding for the Daesh terrorist group.

“It would be interesting to know that this country (Saudi Arabia) does not know that members from that kingdom actually contribute a lot of money, a lot of resources, a lot of efforts and a lot of fighters to ISIS (Daesh),” he says.

Da’na says that an effective way to fight terrorism is to cut the financial assistance that the terrorist group receives. He also says that the ideology of Daesh, which is the same Wahhabi ideology preached in Saudi Arabia, should be fought.

Serwer, for his part, believes that Riyadh’s main concern is to fight Daesh, which is obviously threatening Saudi Arabia as well as other Muslim countries.
