Saudi airstrikes claim more lives across Yemen

1. Top Nigerian Shia cleric Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky says his residence remains under the army's siege after many of his followers were killed by government forces. Nigerian troops attacked the Shia-dominated residential area in the city of Zaria on Saturday. At least 15 people have been killed in the violence.

2. Syrian forces have killed a militant leader and four members of his group in the western Latakia province. The militants belonged to Liwaa al-Nasr, affiliated with the so-called Free Syrian Army. The Syrian Air Force has also hit the positions of Daesh terrorists in the countryside of Homs and Aleppo.

3. A bomb blast kills at least ten people and wounds 30 others in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region. The explosion happened in a Sunday market in Parachinar, the Shia-dominated capital city of Kurram Agency. Medics say most of the injured are in critical condition. There’s been no immediate claim of responsibility.

4. The latest Saudi attacks on Yemen have killed at least six people in the southern province of Lahij. Fighter jets also pounded Harad district in Hajjah province, killing 11 people and wounding a dozen more. Saudi Arabia's military aggression has killed over 7,200 Yemenis since March.

5. Iran’s first vice-president calls for more cooperation with Turkey against terrorism and extremism. Es’haq Jahangiri said respecting other countries’ national sovereignty and territorial integrity is key to regional peace and stability. He made the comments during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkmenistan.

6. Voting is underway in the French regional election runoff. The far-right National Front is hoping to consolidate their gains in the first round of the vote. At the last count, the anti-immigration party came first in six of the 13 regions with nearly 28 percent of the votes.

7. Thousands of Montenegrins have staged a massive rally against their country’s possible membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The protesters marched on the streets of the capital Pod-Grit-Se, demanding a referendum over the likely accession. Prime Minister Milo Dukanovic has rejected all calls to put the issue to vote.

8. About 20 people, half of them armed with rifles, have rallied in the US state of Texas against refugees and Muslims. They included members of a group called Three Percenters who consider themselves patriots protecting the US from Muslims. The march was met by a counter rally against Islamophobia.
