Russia, US should join hands against Daesh Takfiri terrorism: Ban

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says Russia and the US most join forces in order to defeat the Daesh Takfiri terrorists “in the name of humanity.”

“We need to unite. We need to show global solidarity to address the common enemy of ISIL, Daesh, some other extremists and terrorist groups," said Ban at the 27th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday.

He went on to urge Russia and the US’s leadership to address the “root causes of terrorism."

Ban added that the UN is currently compiling information, ideas and experiences from its member states and will present a “comprehensive plan of action to defeat violence and extremism" in the next year.

Both US President Barack Obama and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev called for all countries to band together and defeat the Takfiri terrorists during the summit.

Referring to them as "a bunch of killers with good social media," Obama stressed that their destruction is “not only a realistic goal, we're going to get it done."

"We will take back land they are currently in, take out their financing, hunt down leadership, dismantle their networks, supply lines and we will destroy them," he added.

Medvedev, meanwhile, said that countries with large Muslim communities, such as Russia, should unite to battle the Takfiris, noting, "Terrorists have blown up a Russian airplane over the Sinai Penninsula. They've conducted a massacre at the heart of Europe," he said, in reference to the recent deadly attack in Paris.

The terrorist group also claimed responsibility for the bombing of a Russian passenger jet last month, which killed all the 224 people, pushing Russia to intensify attacks against Daesh in Syria.

Daesh is also responsible for the November 13 attacks in Paris, as well as twin bombings in the Lebanese capital a day earlier.
