US cop tases Texas councilman resisting arrest
A councilman in Texas has been immobilized by a taser in front of his house for resisting arrest during a controversial incident.
Jonathan Miller, 26, was tased by a stun gun in front of his home last Thursday night and later nabbed on charges of interfering with an investigation and resisting an arrest, reports said Monday.
One of the officers involved was also present during the arrest of Sandra Bland, who was found hanged in her cell on July 13, three days after being in custody following a minor traffic infraction in Houston, Texas.
The Monday incident was captured on cellphone video as well as a police body cam.
It all started when two police officers, including a female one involved in Bland's case, questioned three of Miller’s "fraternity brothers" outside his home.
Miller came out to speak with the cops and let them know that those were his guests to “lessen the tension.”
In the cellphone video, officers are seen asking Miller numerous times to place his hands behind his back. Miller is kneeling on the ground motionless with his arms at his side right before the male officer tases him.
Miller said he did not do anything wrong and believes police overstepped their bounds.
“I don’t feel like I did anything that I’m accused of,” Miller said. "I don’t feel like I should’ve been detained or arrested or anything.”
The Police Department has come under fire in the past, mostly for the death of Bland who was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer during a traffic stop and found dead in her cell three days later.
