Major US industrial union, UE joins BDS movement
A powerful American industrial union has endorsed the international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions to pressure Israel to end its apartheid over the Palestinians.
The United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America voted in favor of justice and peace for Palestinians during its national convention last week. The resolution points to Israel’s long history of violating the human rights of Palestinians. The union says Israel’s violations started with the ethnic cleansing of 750000 Palestinians in 1947. The UE also called for an end to US aid to Israel and urged Washington to support a peace settlement on the basis of the right of return for Palestinians. The union with nearly 37000 members across the country is the first US national union to endorse the BDS.
