Russia plans to put on display a copy of the Tsar Bomba, the biggest detonated nuclear bomb in history, in Moscow.

The replica will be showcased during an exhibition scheduled to be held on September 1-29 at the Manege Exhibition Hall in the Russian capital on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Russian atomic development.

The event is to be organized by Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, which is a state corporation and the regulatory body of the Russian nuclear complex.

“The main highlight of the exhibition will be legendary thermonuclear bomb AN602, or  Kuz'kina Mat', which is of course Tsar Bomba,” a Rosatom statement said.

On October 30, 1961, the massive bomb was dropped at a testing range on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean and its explosion power was estimated at between 57 and 58.6 megatons.

The ball of fire produced by the explosion was visible from a distance of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) and the mushroom cloud from it rose up to 67 kilometers (41 miles).

“Outside, there was a sea of light, an ocean of light suddenly bursting out… Once our plane came out of the clouds, in between them, a huge balloon of bright orange color appeared! It was like Jupiter – powerful, and conceited, and confident, slowly and silently crawling up,” the filming crew on board a carrier plane, in charge of making a documentary of the unprecedented explosion, recalled.

The blast also smashed the windows of buildings as far as 800 kilometers (497 miles) away and also caused radio signal distortions for about 40 minutes.
