At least eight civilians have lost their lives in airstrikes conducted by the US-led coalition purportedly targeting terrorists in Syria, a report says.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the casualties came on Wednesday after air raids allegedly targeting a weapons depot belonging to the so-called Jaysh al-Sunna Takfiri militant group in the Atmeh region of Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib.

“There were a total of 18 people killed. Eight of them were civilians, including five children and two women,” SOHR Head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

“There was a huge explosion after the strikes,” he added.

Atmeh is reportedly home to a camp for people displaced due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.

Since September 2014, some members of the US-led coalition have been pounding purported militant positions inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

This is while most of the parties to the alliance have been among the staunch supporters of Takfiri terrorists operating to topple the Syrian government. The airstrikes have also left many civilians dead and destroyed Syrian infrastructure.

The chaos in Syria, which started in March 2011, has reportedly claimed over 240,000 lives up until now.

The violence has also forced more than 3.8 million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon. Over 7.2 million others have also been displaced within Syria, according to the UN.
