Parents of 5 children shot dead in US

Armed invaders shot and killed a Bradenton, Fla., couple inside their home Thursday, police said.

Parents of five children have been shot and killed in their own home in Bradenton, Florida while their five children were inside the house.

Kantrel Brooks and Esther Deneus, both 29, were fatally shot on Thursday by a group of 4 or 5 of people, who were wearing masks when they broke into the house at 3910 Southern Parkway West.

The children, who range from 1 to 11 years old, were not hurt and they were placed in custody of Child Protective Services.

In a video emerged later that day, three masked people can be seen throwing a brick through the front door of the home. They then entered the house while carrying weapons.

The suspects fatally shot Brooks near the front door and then killed Deneus inside the house, police officials said.

The suspects then left the home, running away toward the east, the officials added.

Deneus’ uncle, Saint Alet Azor, said, “I ain’t gonna see her no more. Somebody [took] her life…forever.”

Brooks’ sister, Shemeaka Waters, said “Whoever did this, it’s just messed up. It is. Why did you have to kill him? You didn’t have to do that! But you did.”

“[The children] don’t know what’s going on, they’re probably still in shock,” Waters added.

Police have not identified anyone and have not provided any information about the motive behind the killings.

Detective Lt. James Rackey of the Bradenton Police Department said "We want to make sure we do the best job that we can so we can bring justice for those two victims inside the house."

A new report shows that several major US cities have seen a dramatic surge in homicides in 2015.

The increase in violent crime is disproportionately impacting poor and predominantly African-American and Latino neighborhoods, the report by USA Today has shown.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, more than 5,000 people have been killed and over 10,000 people have been injured by gun across the US since 1 January 2015.
