On July 3, 1988, US warship Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner over the Persian Gulf, killing all 290 people on board, including 66 children. Iran is marking the 27th anniversary of the tragic incident.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on the occasion. While offering condolences to the families of the victims, the statement condemned the attack on the Iranian airbus as a gross violation of the international law by the US. The Foreign Ministry also described the incident as an example of state-terrorism supported by the US government. The statement noted that the US attack on the passenger plane will never be erased from the memory of the Iranian nation, and that it further shows the false nature of Washington’s claims about human rights.
