British pedophile doctor has jail sentence cut by 6 years

Myles Bradbury, British pedophile doctor

The UK’s Court of Appeal has reduced the jail term of a pedophile doctor who was sentenced over sexual abuse of 18 young patients.

Myles Bradbury, who worked as a pediatric consultant, was sentenced to 22 years in jail in December 2014.

Now, judges say they would replace the original sentence with a custodial element of 16 years with an additional six years on parole.

Judges while announcing the ruling on Friday called a total figure of 22 years as an appropriate but said a "better way both to punish the appellant and protect the public" was to "restructure the sentence".

Bradbury worked as pediatric consultant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge

Bradbury was jailed by at the Cambridge Crown Court after he admitted to more than 20 offenses including sexual assault, voyeurism, and possessing indecent images of the victims.

Some of the victims suffering from leukemia, hemophilia or other serious conditions have since died.

The trial judge, while delivering the verdict last year, described Bradbury as one of the worst pedophiles he had ever seen.

Bradbury will have to serve two-thirds of the 16 years before he can apply for parole.
